Fr. Wilson’s Weekly Address

 Dear Parishioners,

I had wonderful meetings last week with all our current Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Altar Servers in preparation for the change in our weekend Mass schedule in September. This Monday at 6:00 PM in the main church, I would like to meet with all our current Ushers & Greeters in order to discuss schedule preferences and review our current practices. If you are unable to attend, please call or e-mail me at the Parish Office. Thank you!

There’s only a few days left to sign-up for the Annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, September 20th at 1:00 PM at the Cathedral in Providence. This is a wonderful opportunity for couples celebrating a major anniversary to renew their vows with Bishop Tobin and enjoy a reception afterwards in the cathedral hall. I truly enjoy attending this celebration each year and praying with and for our married couples—and I look forward to going again this year. Please call Mrs. Diane Paiva at our Parish Office by this Friday, August 21st to sign-up or for more information.

As many of our young people prepare to return to college (or begin their first year), I encourage our parents and grandparents to make sure they have a crucifix for their wall and a small statue of our Blessed Mother for their desk. These items are good reminders of their Catholic faith and will help them to stay morally strong in the midst of the temptations of dorm/college life. These items are very inexpensive and available at any Catholic religious goods store.

Last Saturday, we celebrated the Assumption of our Blessed Mother—the truth that at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into heaven. This Saturday we celebrate her Queenship of heaven and earth. But look closely at our queen—she is a humble, lowly handmaid who rose to the heights of heaven because she said “yes” to God in all things. Imagine if we said “yes” to Jesus (God with us) and his bride, the Church, in all things—we would rise to the heights of heaven as well! May the Queen of Heaven and Earth teach us how to say “yes” to God as she did. God bless you in the week ahead.

Fr. Wilson
