Fr. Wilson’s Weekly Address

Dear Parishioners,

We welcome to our parish next weekend Fr. Vincent Freeh of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart for the annual Mission Appeal. The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart were founded in 1854 by Fr. Jules Chevalier. What began as a local effort to restore the vitality of the faith in rural France has grown to over 2,000 priests and brothers serving the poor in 53 countries including India, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Colombia, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their mission is to reveal the loving heart of Jesus by preaching the Gospel, responding to the needs of the local poor and promoting human development. Please keep Fr. Freeh and his whole congregation in your prayers and give as your means allow to their missionary work among the desperately poor in our world. Thank you!

I had a great meeting with all our current Ushers and Greeters last Monday evening. These generous men and women serve a very important ministry of welcoming and helping with any needs of parishioners and visitors to our parish. As we prepare for our new Mass schedule in September, our parish is in need of some extra ushers and greeters at two Masses: the 8:00 AM and the 5:00 PM on Sunday. If you would like to help out (it’s very easy!), please see me after any Mass. Thank you!

In the past two weeks, I have received several inquiries about the qualifications necessary to be a Godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation. It’s a perennial question, so within this weekend’s bulletin you will find a listing of the Church’s requirements according to the Code of Canon Law (Canon Nos. 873 and 874) and a brief discussion on Godparents and Sponsors. These requirements are universal— therefore, every bishop, priest and deacon is expected to abide by them. Please feel free to share this with anyone or to call me or see me after any Mass with any questions. God bless you in the week ahead.
